Week 2 ended in a win for the Lions, defeating the Bastrop Bears 28-23 at Bastrop, putting the Lions at 2-0 for the year.

“We had a great plan coming into the game.” Senior Tight End Peyton Gordon said, “Our offense felt super confident in the plan for this week. We came out in the first half ready to play and that really helped us.”

The offensive side of the ball was having a good game with the leading scorer, Senior Peyton Gordon, who had 2 receiving touchdowns and 58 total yards. Defense was having a good game in the first half by only allowing 10 points for the Bears. Senior Quarterback Cameron Burkman showed out, going 13/15 in attempts, 202 passing yards, and 3 touchdowns for the game.

“After I scored those touchdowns I felt great,” Gordon said. “I felt so good that day because one, it was my birthday and two, scoring brought the energy up for the rest of the game.”

Going into the third quarter the Lions were holding on to a strong 21-10 lead. Early in the third quarter, Junior Running Back Joseph Marro had a 2-yard run for a touchdown, making the score 28-10. The Bastrop Bears score 13 unanswered points in the last minutes of the fourth quarter, not enough to overcome the Lions

“I think the defense came out strong in the first half, we held Bastrop to 3 points,” Junior Linebacker Michael Segovia said. “The defense let up because of the lead we already had, but we did as much as we could to stop them from scoring more, we were trying to stay in the game and hold them from as many yards as possible.”

Next game for the Lions will be away against the Del Rio Rams on friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
