On Saturday, Feb. 24, three students from the UIL Debate team competed at the Westwood Winter Classic. Senior Tyler Ecket placed third in Persuasive Speaking, sophomore Jared Selke advanced to semifinals in Informative Speaking and Prose Interpretation, and senior Danae Barkocy advanced to octafinals in Lincoln-Douglas debate and to semifinals in Persuasive Speaking.

“I was so excited,” Barkocy said. “I love the feeling of accomplishment that comes with seeing myself and the team do well.”

The team will later compete at TFA state in El Paso from March 5. through March. 7. After that, they will continue on to the district competition at Stony Point in Round Rock on March 27.

“I’m so happy to be able to end my senior debate season by going to these two huge tournaments with the team,” Barkocy said. “I’m actually really confident that we’ll have people move in to out rounds in either or both district and state this year. We have a lot of really good competitive people and I’m psyched to see how it goes.”
