Superintendent Bret Champion resigns
Bret Chamption to become superintendent for KISD in July
Superintendent of LISD Bret Champion announced his resignation on April 28th after being announced as Klein ISD’s next superintendent for their district. He will start work as the superintendent there in July.
“I applied for the job in Klein due to a number of factors,” Champion said. “ Personally, with both boys having graduated from LHS the last couple of years, Mrs. Champion and I realized we might be open to seeing if there were other great places to work and live.”
He also had more reasons as to why he decided to move onto Klein ISD.
“Doors opened up in Klein, and it fits that bill for a number of reasons: It is a wonderful, cohesive community; the schools and folks working there are doing well for students; the Board is strong and student-focused; parents are engaged in the educational process; and it is a fast-growth district,” Champion said. “All of these things are very similar to Leander ISD, just in a little bit bigger school district.”
Mr. Champion also shared his thoughts on leaving the school district.
“It is certainly bittersweet,” Champion said. “I’m sad to say goodbye to so many kind, good folks, but I’m excited for this next challenge. I do know that Leander ISD is in great hands. The teachers, principals, staff, Board, parents and students are awesome, and none of that is going away! I will always love Leander ISD!”
The principal, Tiffany Spicer, was hired by Bret Champion. She gave her description of the superintendent.
“Dr. Champion is a Servant Leader,” Spicer said. “He is a man who leads humbly and passionately with concern for every student, teacher, parent, and stakeholder of Leander ISD. He is a great leader who has invested his life and provided a rich foundation for this district. I truly believe his leadership has put Leander ISD on the map as being one of THE best districts in Texas.”
She also gave her reaction to the announcement of his resignation.
“When I received word that he would be leaving the district I was shocked and in denial,” Spicer said. “He is one of the reasons I came to Leander ISD. He is a strong leader who cares about his people and he models this for our district on a daily basis.”
However she stopped looking at the bad and began to look at the good.
“After I processed and thought about his departure I realized that this is a great opportunity for him and he is so deserving,” Spicer said. “I believe he has put Leander is a great position as a district. He will be missed but I know he is leaving a legacy behind. The next superintendent will definitely have big shoes to fill.”
