New Thrift Store in Town

Hill Country Community Ministries Thrift Store opens in Leander

by McKenzie Henningsen, Co-Editor in Chief

Hill Country Community Ministries Thrift Store opened on June 1 and is located at 1501 Leander Drive, Bldg. C, Unit 3, Leander.

The proceeds from the thrift store go to Hill Country Community Ministries, a nonprofit corporation that provides assistance for those in crisis or in poverty from western Williamson County and northwest Travis county.

Although getting to the store was complicated because it was located in a ____ center, the entrance was clearly marked with a sign.

Walking in, you’re greeted with a much more boutique-like atmosphere than your average Goodwill or Savers. At t the store, there are higher-end brands grouped together along with event wear like prom dresses and men’s suits. In the main section of the store, they sell everything from children’s clothing and men’s hats to women’s skirts and dresses. They also have a small home section with furniture and other household wares.

Everything is arranged by the type of item and by size within the section, so it’s very easy to find what you’re looking for.

Price-wise, this is also the cheapest thrift store in the Leander area that I’ve visited. Tank tops are all $1 and pants are all $4. However, the boutique items do tend to be more expensive, with prom dresses around $10-20.

The store is also very clean, with clear floors and decorated walls. Everything had been hung on hangers, and the shoe section was orderly.

This thrift store has perks for anybody who wants to visit. For self-proclaimed thrifters, the store has very low prices, so you can’t get a better deal anywhere else than the Goodwill Outlets. For people used to shopping at malls or in brick-and-mortar stores, the floor is very well organized and it feels like a more elevated Plato’s Closet.

Both cash and card are accepted here.

They’re closed on Sundays and Mondays, but they’re open from 10-6 a.m. from Tuesday through Thursday. They’re open from 10-3 on Fridays. On Saturdays, they’re open from 1-5 pm.

I would rate the store a 4.9 out of 5. It’s clean, cheap, organized and has good quality brands. Overall, this store was a much-improved thrift experience to any other average thrift store out there.
