Cross country racks up medals in pre-district meets

by Claire Kyllonen, Assistant Editor

This past weekend the Cross Country team went to Round Rock to compete at Old Settlers Park against over 4200 runners. In a very successful turn of events, the team ended up bringing home 5 medals.

“We have a really good coach who puts in his time to make sure we get the right amount of miles each week,” Varsity member Alexandria Ford said. “We also have a lot of team members who encourage each other.”

For the girls team, Kami Taylor finished in 18th place, Emily Hill in 22nd, Kim Parada in 23rd place, and Caroline Crone in 26th place. For the boys team, Rob Coe led the boys with 23rd place.

“During the week we work really hard before our meets,” Varsity member Kim Parada said. “We run just about every day of the week, but on Fridays we only run a mile so we don’t push ourselves too hard before the next meet.”

The girl’s varsity team placed 4th out of 31 teams.

“We worked hard, we encouraged each other, and we pushed each other,” Varsity member Claire Crone said. “We’re going to go hard at practice for this next meet and then district afterward.”

There is only one more meet for the Cross Country teams before District begins. It will be on Saturday, Oct. 11 in Georgetown at San Gabriel Park.
