The cross country girl varsity team of  senior Caroline Crone, junior Kami Taylor, and senior Funmi Orekoya won first place for the second meet in a row at the Burnet relays. The boys team of  seniors Rob Coe, Justin Campbell and Jared Jawed  placed second in the relays.

“The relays are fun,” senior Crone said. “Burnet is great for team bonding. It’s a short easy course, only 1.3 miles, but a goody way to enter the season. It’s a meet we all look forward to running at.”

Senior Claire Crone ran the fastest time in the team again at 7:23. The varsity team of Crone, Kim Parada, and Richelle Vossler placed fourth with fastest time held by Prada with 7:56.

“I felt really happy,” Crone said. “We had won the two years before so it was an amazing moment to have my last Burnet Relay be a win.”

The varsity boys team placed second and the fastest time was held by Coe. After the race, they all went to Pizza Hut and had team bonding by planning their fantasy football teams as a way to relieve the stress of running. Coe said it was a great way to take his mind off the meet.

“It hurt a little bit more than normal,” senior Coe said. “Finding out that I had a new MPR [Maximum Performance Running] was a good feeling. It was a really great start to the season.”

On September 12, the cross country team will be competing at the Liberty Hill meet at Liberty Hill Junior High.
