Junior Varsity Football Defeats Vandegrift

On Wednesday, October 10, the JV Red football team kicked off against the Vandegrift Vipers.

The first quarter ended with no score. With 6:10 left in the second quarter, Mason Hart, sophomore, scored a touchdown. The extra point was good starting off the Lions with a 7-0 score. About a minute later, Joseph Sanchez, sophomore, intercepted a Viper pass.

“It was my second interception this season, and it felt pretty good. I was going to try to return it, but I came up a little short,” Sanchez said.

In the next minute, Sanchez scored with a touchdown pass, making it 14-0 for the Lions.

To end the second quarter, Mason Hart ran the ball in for a touchdown, leaving the Lions with a score of 21-0.

In the third quarter, with 3:12 left, on fourth down 1 to go for the Lions, quarterback Andrew Wheeler, sophomore, ran for a touchdown. The extra point was good and the Lions had a new score of 28-0.

To start off the fourth quarter, Mikael Dawkins, sophomore, received a pass from Wheeler and scored a touchdown. The extra point was good, starting off the Lions with a 35-0 score.

“It was my third touchdown, and it felt great; thanks to my quarterback,” Dawkins said.

In the 41 seconds remaining of the game, the Vipers scored a touchdown. The extra point was good, ending the game with a score of 35-7.

On October 4, the JV Red team won the Homecoming game against Rouse with a score of 33-0. Major players of the offense were Andrew Wheeler, Morgan Sanner, sophomore; Nico Cortez, sophomore; Ben Douglas, sophomore; and Mikael Dawkins. Major defensive players were Jonathan Permenter, sophomore; Griffin Mavis, sophomore; Josh McDowell, sophomore; Conner Gold, sophomore; Colton Crisler, sophomore; and Christian Alaniz, sophomore.

 

On Wednesday, October 10th, the JV Blue team kicked off against the Vandegrift Vipers.

The first quarter flew by with no scoring. In the second quarter, three minutes and 18 seconds into the game, the Vipers made a touchdown. The extra point was good and the score started, and ended the game with, 7-0.

On October 4, the JV Blue team won against the Rouse Raiders 21-20. Quarterback Tyler Poe, junior, scored all three touchdowns for the Lions. The major players on the defense were Hunter Gregory, junior; Joe Hubbard, junior; and Mike McCray, junior.

Next week on Thursday, October 18, both Lion team will play the Vista Ridge Rangers at Gupton stadium. The Red team will play at 5:30 p.m., and the Blue team will play at 7:30 p.m.
