Vista Ridge slips by winning 65-40, Lions beat Dripping Springs 41-38

Games against Hendrickson and Copperas Cove lead the Lady Lions into district. The first game of district, against Vista Ridge, ended in a loss of 65-40. When playing against Hendrickson the first half against ended with the Lady Lions making 12 points and the last half with 29 points.

“Shots weren’t falling and from there it spiraled out of control to frustration, which led to turnovers, which led to more frustration, and panic,” senior Brooke Wells said.

The game against Copperas Cove ended with a similar score of 60-40. With Vista Ridge as their opponent, the team capitalized on defense. In the first half the team scored 16 points and in the second half they scored 21 points.

“We did well on defense, rebounding, and boxing out,” sophomore Kassadie Sanders said. “Vista Ridge players are tall and long which required more aggressive play on the glass.”

With the most points made, seniors Rayanna Carter and Izaila “Gigi” Martinez scored a total of 21 points. Senior Andrea Mateo scored 5 points, Kylie Douglas and Wells made two points each. Sophomore Sanders scored 2 points and senior Anastacia “AJ” Luna made 2 points against Vista Ridge.

“We all struggled with making our shots,” Sanders said. “We got off the shots we wanted, they just weren’t falling.”

Dripping Springs fell to the Lady Lions Friday leading forward through district. After their previous experiences with Hendrickson, Copperas Cove, and Vista Ridge, the girls were able to defeat them with a score of 41-38.

“We did a great job on the defensive end, but we have been working on making shots and that is exactly how we pulled out a win at drip the other night,” Sanders said.

This Friday the girls will be playing against Georgetown. It will be an away game.
