Lady Lions Say Goodbye To The Seniors

by Emary Greene, Staff Writer

The Lady Lions soccer team had their closing game for the season last night against the Vandegrift Lady Vipers. The Lady Vipers were able to get off a quick shot early in the first half. Through a lot of hustle and aggressive defense, the Lady Lions were able to hold them at one point for the rest of that half. Senior Sasha Stinson had some really nice passes while senior goalie Mayra Alvarado had some amazing saves.

During halftime the team celebrated their season as well as the senior teammates. They were each escorted by their families across the field. A lot of the seniors have been a part of the soccer program here at Leander for all four of their years here.

“Being on this team has not only brought me some of the best friends I could ever have, but it has also brought me memories I could never forget,” senior captain Abby Ramos said. “I’m so proud of how far we have come as a team. We might not have gotten the results to miss all of the times we couldn’t stop laughing and all of the wonderful people this program has led me to meet.”

Despite all the celebrating, the second half wasn’t in the Lady Lions favor. The Lady Vipers score three of their five goals 15 minutes into the half. The team didn’t lose that lion’s heart though. They fought hard and most importantly had fun throughout to the very end. The team walked away from their last game of the season beaten but not defeated. And although the seniors have said their goodbyes, the team will continue to work hard for next year.

“I think that without the seniors next year, it’ll be hard,” junior Aubree Vasquez said. “Ultimately it’ll get easier as new captains are chosen to take their place. We will miss them but I know they will be watching us play and we will play to make them proud.”
