The Lady Lions softball team won 6-2 against the Marble Falls Lady Mustangs last Thursday night.

“As a whole team we’re doing a lot better,” senior Gabby Walton said. “[We can] back each other up physically.”

After the first inning, the Lady Lions tied the game 1-1 after junior Abbey Orlich scored a run to tie the game. The game remained tied until the bottom of the fifth inning when Hailey Henderson scored a run. Orlich then stole a run to bring the score 3-1. With bases loaded, seniors Gabby Walton and Hailey MacKay scored runs to bring the score 5-1. Then, the Lady Lions scored their final run of the game to bring the score 6-1 after the fifth inning.

“Sometimes it just takes awhile to adjust to the pitcher, we all usually get a lot of hits during the 5th inning because we’ve had time to adjust,” Orlich said. “Once we score we get really pumped and score again.”

Marble Falls only scored one more run, and the Lady Lions won their fourth game in district making them undefeated in district play, and first in district.

“It’s kind of weird, because I don’t know if we’ve actually been first in district before,” Walton said. “It’s weird for me to think about it because we’ve never been like that before, and I don’t feel big and overpowering with the other teams, but I know we have a huge target on our back especially going into East View this week and they’re going to want to knock that zero right out of our hands, but I’m not worried about it, and I’m not overthinking things just because I know if we stay calm and collected we can probably ride it out.”

Next, the Lady Lions travel to East View on Tuesday, at 7.

The JV softball girls played Marble Falls at home where they won 9-2.

“We were tied 1-1 in the first inning and then we scored five runs in the fifth inning,” sophomore Emily Walton said.
