Varsity wrestling took part in the Regional Tournament after six boys qualified after the District meet and finished with qualifying five wrestlers to advance to the State Tournament.

“I am very proud of what the team accomplished this weekend, but they know that we still have work to do,” Head Coach Adam McLain said.

The individual results were freshman John Geiger in the 106 weight class won 2nd, and senior Ricky Smith in the 120 weight class also won 2nd. The Regional Champions were freshman Lance Reed, senior Tyler Young and junior Zeke Garcia.

“I shot right off the whistle and didn’t let anything get in my head,” Reed said. “[I’m excited with] just the fact that I’m at state really and that I’m ranked 4th.”

The team finished in 3rd for overall team points and all five of the wrestlers will be attending the State Tournament which is a school record for number of wrestlers to have qualified for the event.

“We fully intend on bringing some State Championships back to Leander High School,” Coach McLain said. “The wrestlers have worked really hard for this moment, so I am excited to see them compete against the best competition in the state.”
