The wrestling team is the hardest working group of athletes in the entire school. The wrestlers have won more awards than any other sport in the school but the wrestlers still don’t get any funding or respect.
The football field is awesome. The basketball court is too. But the wrestling room is getting destroyed. It’s like the school board forgot about the wrestlers.
The wrestlers are tough, they practice like crazy, running and lifting weights during and after school. They’re always on the mat, getting beat up. The wrestlers give up a lot to wrestle for our school. But they get old, gross mats, and not enough equipment. They have to beg for money just to go to competitions.
The wrestling team’s competitors have way better equipment then our team does and that makes it harder for our wrestlers to compete as well as those other contending schools. If the school administrators allocated more money, the wrestlers could get new mats that aren’t falling apart. They could get better equipment to train with, and maybe even their own strength coach. They could go to more tournaments and get better at wrestling. Football and basketball are popular, but wrestling is important too.
Wrestling teaches a person how to not only be the best physical self that they can be, but it also teaches them how to be a good person. The amount of respect that wrestlers earn just from being in the sport cannot be compared to any other sport.
The school administrators should support the wrestlers and show them that they care. With the money that would be allocated to the wrestling team, the wrestlers would be sure to put it to good use and continue to win more trophies for the school.
