Varsity girl members huddle at the Liberty Hill meet in preparation for what will be another win in their streak.

The Cross Country season continues at the Liberty Hill meet. The varsity girls team continued their win streak and senior Claire Crone placed first individually.

“Last year the sun was really hot and bright as we ran,” Kim Parada said. “This year when I was running, I felt really good with the breeze on me as I ran. It made me really happy and we all did really well.”

The varsity team includes other juniors Kami Taylor, Caroline Crone and Richelle Vossler. Freshman Sydney Brinkmann also ran as a varsity member. Parada placed 11th in the meet.

“Our team brought three Leander flags to the meet,” Parada said. “The crowd was waving it and cheering. It was great.”

In preparation for the race the cross country team ran up and down hills, and did fartlicks; the runner sprinting for part of the course, then running, then sprinting and so on. They arrived at the school to head to the meet at 7:00 a.m. According to Vossler, she could feel the nervous energy in the others.

“I felt nervous for the outcome but I was excited to run,” Vossler said. “The people on the bus were nervous as well. They were all listening to music and I guess that’s what you do when you’re nervous. I eat when I’m nervous but you obviously can’t eat before a race.”

Cross Country will be running at Cedar Park invitational Saturday at Cedar Park High School. The team hopes to continue their winning streak.
