Playoffs begin with a win against Bastrop

The first game of playoffs for the Lady Lions ended 66-57 against Bastrop. The monday night game at Bastrop was started with a score of 18 points in the first quarter. The amount of points scored for each quarter stayed in the double digits for the entirety of the game.

“Our mindset was to stay focused since it was at their gym and the atmosphere of playoff games are always crazy intense,” senior Izaila Martinez said. “It was to play together as a team, have fun and take care of business on defense so our offense could get started by it.”

The Lady Lions kept consistent with the first half ending in 35 points and second half in 31 points.

“We wanted it more,” senior Kylie Douglas said. “Don’t get me wrong Bastrop wanted it pretty bad but in the end we were the team who punched first. We played as a team and fixed all of the little things in the beginning.”

Junior Alicia Molina scored 10 points, and Martinez scored nine points. Senior Andrea Mateo scored four points. Senior Rayanna Carter and sophomore Kassadie Sanders made the most points during the game. Carter scored 26 points and Sanders scored 18 points.

“Knowing that we never know when our season could end, I am excited to battle with my team every second of the game tonight,” Martinez said. “I am focused and I am excited knowing my team and I have prepared for playoffs since the first day of school.”

The next game of playoffs will be Friday the 19th in New Braunfels against Floresville. It will start at 8 p.m.
