Jeans, socks, undergarments, plain t-shirt, and a jacket. Though this is typical attire for a student, some families cannot afford these items. When this happens, LISD families have the option to visit the Clothes Closet, an organization within the district Council of PTAs that provides district students with a voucher from their school nurse to receive free, donated clothes.

“[Our goal] is to get more families to know about us and shopping with us,” Clothes Closet Chairwoman Jennifer Montes said. “We are excited that we are getting new floors in 2016 and the exterior fixed up as well.”

Montes particularly likes the fact that the organization helps families in need.

“The best thing is how excited parents get when they find clothes that they know their kids will love,” Montes said.

Their goal this year is to increase the number of families the Clothes Closet helps.

“Last year 175 families were helped.” Montes said. “This year we have already helped 90, and hope to surpass last year’s number by at least 50.”
