The tennis team participated in the Westwood Tournament last Friday, and doubles team seniors Joseph Rexrode and Luis Farias won the consolation Boys’ Division by defeating Georgetown 9-7.

“Our first round match was against some very difficult opponents from Dallas,” Farias said. “They were probably the best players in the entire tournament, so we lost 0-8 in about 20 min. In consolation our opponents got more difficult as we progressed, with the score of the final being a close 9-7.”

He also talked about his and Rexrode’s synergy throughout the tournament.

“We were positive all day, even with a tough loss in the first match,” Farias said. “Even when we down in matches we fought hard and didn’t give up, being supportive and all that. We also played to our strengths, where Joseph would attack more from the baseline and I would be aggressive at the net.”

Rexrode gave his own opinion on the victory him and Farias experienced last week.

Our synergy is almost always affected by the fact that we’re good friends to begin with.

“It felt really great, because it was the first time Luis and I have won a division like that before,” Rexrode said. “I’ve won with my old doubles partner but it feels great to be able to do the same with Luis.”

He gave his own thoughts as to how they performed so well.

“Our synergy is almost always affected by the fact that we’re good friends to begin with,” Rexrode said. “However, I think our communication was much more effective in this match in particular, because we both had the same drive and vigor to win, for ourselves and for our team.”

The Lions will be taking part in the Cedar Park-Vista Ridge High School Tournament on March 4th at 8:00 AM.
