Theatre Department hosts Rock Band tournament fundraiser

v  By Evia Zack

Leander Theatre Department is hosting a Rock Band tournament on Saturday, February 21st, at 6:00 p.m. in the PAC. For a four-person band, the entry cost is $20, or $5 per person, and sign ups are in the Commons during lunches. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5.

The tournament is to raise money for students  to attend the National Thespian Convention in Nebraska this summer. These students competed at the Texas State Thespian Convention in November, and placed in their respective events and advanced to the national level. Evan Nasky advanced in Monologue, Safaa Hansen advanced in Set Design, TJ Mendenhall advanced in Lighting Design, and Lora Blackwell, Danielle Farley, Justin Cagle, Josean Rodriguez, and Ben Sands won first in Group Acting, advanced to Nationals, and got to perform in front of the entire convention. The Leander Thespian Troupe 5232 also recieved the award of “All Star Troupe,” a title awarded to only five troupes of the 136 that attended the festival.

Support your fellow students and the Theatre Department by attending or competing in the Rock Band Tournament! Clubs in the school can submit their own bands, and through this competition, will grow closer than they ever have in the past.
